Getting started

From installation to your first EQ in about ten minutes.


Step 1

Install and launch

Download EQing

Download the latest Windows installer from this website. EQing supports 64-bit Windows 10 and 11.

Run the installer

Open the installer and follow the prompts. Windows may request administrator permission during installation.

Start immediately

No sign-in or activation is required. Playback, EQ, upscaling, exciter, listening effects, spatial audio, DSD, and AI EQ are all free.

Choose what to process

Add a local music folder to the Library, or follow the VB-CABLE section below to process audio from a streaming app, browser, or game.


Step 2 · Optional

Route an app through VB-CABLE

VB-Audio VB-CABLE is donationware that can be installed and tested for free. It sends audio from another app into EQing so only the processed signal reaches your headphones or DAC.

Install from the official site

Download the Windows package, extract the entire ZIP, run VBCABLE_Setup_x64.exe as administrator, click Install Driver, and restart Windows.

Change the source app output

Set Spotify, your browser, game, or other source app to CABLE Input (VB-Audio Virtual Cable). Windows per-app sound settings let you route only selected apps.

Configure EQing Loopback

In Settings, choose Loopback → WASAPI. Select the same CABLE Input as the capture device and your real headphones, DAC, or speakers as the output device. Disable exclusive mode in the source app.

Apply and start capture

Click Apply Output, then Start Capture. If the cable is missing, refresh the device list or restart EQing. For dropouts, match the shared-mode sample rates of CABLE Input and the physical output device.


Step 3

Choose an audio output

Open Settings

Select the gear icon in the left sidebar.

Select a backend

WASAPI Exclusive offers a direct bit-perfect path. WASAPI Shared is the most compatible and mixes other apps. Loopback processes audio from another app or device.

Select the device and apply

Choose the desired output from the device list and click Apply Output.


Step 4

Build a parametric EQ

Open the EQ view

The response graph and filter list let you see and edit the complete curve.

Add or edit bands

Drag points on the graph or enter frequency, gain, and Q values directly in the filter list.

Import a correction profile

Use REW / AutoEQ Import to load a compatible ParametricEQ.txt file.

Enable and save

Turn EQ on, confirm your preamp and headroom, then save the curve as a preset for later use.


Step 5 · Optional

Create EQ with the local AI Assistant

Download the model once

Open AI EQ Assistant, then use Open model download page to download the Gemma 4 E2B GGUF file, approximately 3 GB. Ollama is not required.

Select the GGUF file

Choose the downloaded model in EQing. The saved path is reused next time. If loading fails because of the path, move it to an English-only path such as C:\Models\model.gguf.

Describe the result you want

Try “clearer vocals, tighter bass, and a little more air.” The assistant explains the moves and applies a safe parametric EQ.

Refine and restore

Continue the conversation to adjust the current curve. Saved sessions can restore both the EQ and its conversation history.

The model runs locally through LLamaSharp and llama.cpp. Prompts are not sent to a cloud service, and the assistant works offline after the model is downloaded.


Frequently asked questions

FAQ

CABLE Input does not appear in the device list.

Extract the downloaded ZIP before installation, run the x64 installer as administrator, restart Windows, and then refresh EQing's device list.

There is no sound after connecting VB-CABLE.

The source app output and EQing capture device must both be CABLE Input. EQing's output must be your physical listening device. Apply the output and then start capture.

Loopback audio sounds doubled.

Use a physical output device that is different from the capture source and make sure the source app is not also playing directly to that device.

Which file formats are supported?

Lossless: FLAC, WAV, AIFF, ALAC, APE
Compressed: MP3, AAC, Ogg Vorbis
DSD: DSF and DFF, with PCM conversion or native DoP playback.
